ART WORK ON
WHEELS: THE 1931
BUSINESSMAN’S
COUPE BY
PLYMOUTH MOTORS:
Very rare: Only
25 in the world
in this mint
drivable
condition!

In 1928,
Chrysler
Corporation
created separate
divisions for
distribution of
various lines of
cars: Plymouth
Motor
Corporation,
Dodge Brothers
Corporation,
DeSoto Motor
Corporation and
the Chrysler
Sales
Corporation.
Plymouth was
introduced to
compete with
Chevy and Ford
in the lower
priced US
markets.
Plymouth charged
into the ring
with a 4
cylinder high
compression
engine and
4-wheel
hydraulic
brakes. brakes. brakes.
The 1931 was a
major competitor
in the small car
class and
seriously
threatened Henry
Ford's empire.
It completely
outclassed the
Ford Model A by
featuring more
graceful body
lines, and a
really smooth
engine balanced
on three rubber
shock mounts-the
famous "floating
power." Their
advertising
slogan was:
SMOOTHNESS OF AN
EIGHT, THE
ECONOMY OF A
FOUR.
The 1931
Plymouth Coupe
you are viewing
took 8 years to
restore: The
paint was the
original color
and the
upholstery was
hand made and
fitted. It
could be a daily
driver and
operates like
the day it was
built. This is
the third owner
and it was
always garaged
and driver drove
sparingly each
summer season.
All the gauges
work except the
gas gauge, but
with the
availability of
manuals on the
web, this can
easily be fixed.
The carburetor
on this
wonderful
commuter has
recently been
rebuilt for very
smooth starting.
Please pay
attention to the
very smooth and
well done finish
and the internal
work done on
this car. It is
the perfect
vehicle for an
evening ride
with someone
very special, or
the local parade
on the 4th
of July, which
is where we
first saw it.
We certainly
hope it goes to
a new owner that
is as proud as
its current.
